Once upon a time…
I grew up delighting in all sorts of creative adventures. Eventually, I left that childhood behind along with drawers full of drawings, stories, and scripts, and went on to study at California State University, Long Beach. I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, specializing in Drawing and Painting, in 1993.
During those college years, I started developing art classes for children as the Arts & Programs Director for the Long Beach Children’s Museum. Later, I developed classes and taught K-8 students as the Art Specialist for Westerly School of Long Beach for three years. My artistic interest branched out a little and I began to dabble with other types of media such as collage and stained glass.
But then, the first of our four wonderful children arrived, and I embraced motherhood and homeschooling. It would be many years before I would be able to turn my focus back toward personal projects. But, those years and experiences have fueled me with an ample supply of ideas, subject matter, and motivation. They have inspired me and clarified my next steps as I return back into the art world.
Today, writing and illustrating children’s books is my dream, so I am currently building an illustration portfolio with children’s illustration as the primary focus. I continue to offer periodic afternoon art classes and workshops primarily to the homeschool community of Santa Maria. My recent work has been shown at the Town Center Gallery, the Santa Maria Airport, the Betteravia Gallery in the Joseph Centeno Government Building, and Shepard Hall Gallery at the Santa Maria Public Library. In addition, I have painted murals for both a private residence for the City of Santa Maria (completed but awaiting installation).
